Anyone who has used a PC for some length of time will appreciate that like the human body, PCs too need regular and careful attention, occasional trips to the 'doctor' when they 'fall seriously ill' and a fairly strict regimen of 'exercise', so that they stay healthy and productive as far as possible. We are here to help you keep your PC WellOiled at all times!

Note that throughout WellOiledPC, the word PC refers to both Desktop Computers as well as Notebook (Laptop) Computers, but excludes Servers. Do not worry if some of the terms used below are unfamiliar to you at the moment... You are welcome to write in to us anytime - merely click on this link!

A WellOiledPC is one that is trouble-free and healthy at all times. One that runs efficiently at all times. It is one that has all the attributes listed below, for possession of all these attributes alone will mean a healthy PC. Use it as a quick checklist, to verify whether your PC is WellOiled, but do not forget that having all these attributes on 23rd of September 2008 alone isn't sufficient: all these attributes must be present ALL THE TIME, for your PC to be healthy all the time.

Here is the checklist - each of the items are links that will open into fresh pages, describing what to do:

1. You are following the basic norms of running PCs

2. Your PC is correctly set up and you have sufficient Hardware for your applications

3. Your PC does not contain Viruses

4. You are running an updated and patched Antivirus program

5. Your PC does not contain any spyware

6. You are running an updated and patched AntiSpyware program

7. Your PC's Hard Disk is de-fragmented, with all files being stored in contiguous space on the Hard Disk Cylinders, as far as possible

8. Your PC's Windows Registry does not contain conflicting/ missing/ wrong entries in it

9. Your PC has the latest patches and updates for the Operating System, Antivirus & AntiSpyware programs

10. You have taken precautions against receiving too much Spam Mail, into each one of your e-Mail accounts

11. You have put in adequate protection for your PC to survive possible power and climatic problems, as far as you can foresee it

12. All your PC's peripherals (Printers, Scanners, Speakers, etc.) and add-ons (Graphic Cards and other add-ons) work optimally (Section to be added soon)

Why should your PC be WellOiled at all times?

1. Your data will continue to be safe and available to you, as long as your PC is WellOiled

2. Your data (including your private and confidential data such as Credit Card and Bank Account information) will not be accessible to others over the Internet, when you connect to the Net 

3. Your PC will work fine,  whenever you fire it up  

4. Viruses, inferior software, other malware or Spyware will not get the chance to slow you down. You will have all the time for your work, rather that taking time out for repairing your PC! Moreover, you will not lose important e-Mail or other communications, as your PC would be running fine all the time!  

5. You extend the life of your PC, thus saving money for yourself  

A well-maintained car (or any piece of machinery for that matter!) costs less money to run in the medium and long run, since the number and magnitude of break-downs will be significantly less. Similarly, a WellOiledPC  will save you money too, as it will ‘crash’ a lot less frequently
