Zards Software's Cleanse Uninstaller Pro and Martau's Total Uninstall are the two commercial Uninstallers we have reviewed. As you may expect from a commercial software, Zards Cleanse Uninstaller Pro has a number of bells and whistles, in addition to its core Uninstall feature.

Zards Software's Cleanse Uninstaller Pro offers an easy way to remove Yahoo and Google Toolbars from your Mozilla-based browsers: you would otherwise have to disable the Toolbars from the Browser's Tools/ Add ons screens. |

Each of the Icon Groups, Icons and their Sub Menus are well-named and quite self explanatory. In addition to the Icon Groups, Zards Cleanse Uninstaller Pro also has the following Menu Items:

To the left is the Startup Manager Menu Item of Zards Cleanse Uninstaller Pro.
If you are unsure about the pedigree of any Startup Item, Zards Cleanse Uninstaller Pro lets you Google it, so that you may safely remove malevolent programs, while retaining safe programs.
To remove a startup program, you need to merely uncheck the Check Box to the left of each program, while you need to click on the Red Cross marked Delete, at the top of the screen, to permanently delete the startup program. |

The screenshot to the left shows the Junk Finder screen.
You may select one or all drives/ partitions as well as all Bak/ Tmp/ Zero-byte files and delete them. In case you have a large number of such files, the Progress bar at the bottom of the screen will help you keep a tab of the deletion progress as well. |

Securely wipe out files or entire folders, by means of this feature of Zards Cleanse Uninstaller Pro. You may opt for one pass, up to ten passes, for the wiping process. |

What we liked about Cleanse Uninstaller are;
Color Coding to differentiate between good programs and broken entries - this is a nice touch for an Uninstaller, though we notice that it isn't fool-proof!
Depth that the Uninstaller goes to, to completely remove recalcitrant programs
The option to keep a program's settings and configuration files, if you are uninstalling it so as to upgrade to a later version
One improvement we would like to see in Cleanse Uninstaller is a Progress Bar, the first time the program is loaded (and each time thereafter too!), that shows the progress of scanning the Hard Disk for programs. Complete lack of activity makes you think that your machine has crashed! We would also like to see it load up faster...
The other improvement we would like to see is in its screen - as we mentioned earlier on too, the contrast between the screen background and screen elements ought to be more, for good visibility.
Again, we notice that if Zards Cleanse Uninstaller Pro is switched to ful screen mode. the Windows Start Bar becomes unavailable, if it is set to Auto Hide. This is a definite irritant that ought to be removed in the very next version!

Our Verdict

Despite the minor irritants, we have no hesitation in awarding Zards Software Cleanse Uninstaller Pro our Thumbs Up, for it does a very thorough and comprehensive job of detecting and removing software that you no longer want to use! Each of its features - whether it be the Secure Delete or the Startup Programs Manager, is designed to extend upon this core functionality, making it a well-rounded, safe and easy-to-use application. It is excellent value for the money you pay! |
